Nectar feeding birds can be found in the tropics, where there is a year round supply of flowers. Moving from flower to flower, these birds, attracted by bright colors, reach into the flower for the sugary fluid called nectar. They also help the plants to reproduce. For plants to pollinate, it is necessary to transfer pollen from the male part of a flower to the female part. As the bird feeds, both the stamens and stigma touch the bird's body. The bird may fly away to another plant of the same kind, allowing cross-pollination to occur. Sunbirds and hummingbirds are examples of a few important plant pollinators.
